On October 15, the National Medical Products Administration issued the "Toothpaste Classification Catalog" to set regulatory boundaries for the classification and claims of toothpaste efficacy. The catalog divides toothpaste efficacy into eight major categories: basic cleaning, caries prevention, plaque inhibition, dentin hypersensitivity relief, gum problem reduction, stain removal and whitening, anti-calculus, and halitosis reduction. Each category of efficacy corresponds to a clear mechanism of action, and products must comply with the corresponding mechanism of action before they can be labeled with that category of efficacy.
