Raw sugar futures rose as bullish traders continued to bet that a strong El Nio will tighten supply in major sugar-producing countries. The most-active raw sugar futures contract in New York climbed as much as 3.2%, resuming a rally that began before last week's London Sugar Week. Green Pool Commodity Specialists said in a report on Monday that record rainfall and the expected impact of El Nio had the market digesting the potential for a "significant downward revision" to the 2026-27 sugarcane production estimate for Brazil's center-south region, driving futures prices higher. Rainfall is expected to intensify this week, potentially further delaying the harvest. Meanwhile, analysts wrote that speculators "have been aggressive buyers during this rally, while producers have clearly taken advantage of the price recovery to sell."
