Targeting the pain points of "rushed car manufacturing," regulation of the auto industry is being upgraded once again. On October 10, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and three other departments jointly publicly released the Notice on Further Strengthening the Management of Automotive Product Innovation Design and R&D Testing and Verification, setting requirements for key structural components such as automotive braking systems, reliability and durability verification, and innovative designs such as hidden door handles and zero-gravity seats. Reporters learned that after the release of the Draft for Comments, vehicle manufacturers quickly set off a wave of study and self-inspection. Heads of several automakers told reporters that they organized study of the Draft for Comments over the weekend and would subsequently communicate it company-wide; some automakers also confirmed to reporters that relevant local departments are also organizing study and implementation. Interviewed companies and experts generally believe that this round of regulation precisely corrects the industry's pseudo-innovation chaos of "valuing innovation gimmicks over safety verification," forcing the industry to bid farewell to the logic of fast-moving-consumer-goods-style car manufacturing and fully enter a new development stage from racing for rapid iteration to deeply cultivating quality and pursuing steady, long-term performance.
