On October 10, the State Administration for Market Regulation solicited public comments on the Food Safety Law of the People's Republic of China. This is a large-scale, systematic revision of the Food Safety Law since it was promulgated and implemented in 2009 and substantially revised in 2015. Campus food safety involves a large volume of meal supply, a sensitive group of diners, and a high level of public attention. The draft for comments adds a dedicated section on "school food safety," establishes a principal responsibility system, and creates a system of accompanying meals for centralized dining in primary and secondary schools and kindergartens. "This revision achieves full coverage from platform responsibility to in-platform operators, and from traditional e-commerce to livestream marketing," said Li Chunlei, a professor at the People's Public Security University of China. For example, the responsible entity is uniformly standardized from "third-party platform providers for online food transactions" to "online food trading platform operators," and the objects of management are expanded from "online food operators" to "in-platform operators and livestream room operators," incorporating new business forms such as livestream selling into the scope of regulation for the first time.
