2% annualized interest rate large-denomination certificates of deposit make a comeback
Recently, new changes have emerged in the large-denomination certificate of deposit (CD) market, with large-denomination CDs offering an annualized interest rate of 2% making a comeback. The reporter noted that several banks, including Xishang Bank and Handan Bank, have recently issued new product announcements, launching 3-year personal large-denomination CDs with an annualized interest rate of 2% and a minimum deposit of 200,000 yuan. This means that after a period of quiet, deposit products with interest rates in the "2% range" have reappeared in the market. Since August, small and medium-sized banks in many places, including Hubei and Guangdong, have also raised deposit rates against the broader trend. Even earlier, five-year deposits were relisted by multiple banks. Industry observers believe that behind actions such as relisting large-denomination CDs, some banks are not simply returning to a "high-interest" competition to attract deposits, but are making adaptive moves in deposit-taking in response to challenges such as the concentrated maturity of time deposits and rising demand for fund reallocation.
