Main construction of the Gezhouba shipping capacity expansion project, part of the Three Gorges New Waterway, has begun.

Today, construction officially began on the upstream and downstream cofferdams for the Gezhouba navigation expansion, part of the Three Gorges New Waterway Project. These two cofferdams will work together with the bank slopes and other structures to enclose the construction area, creating the prerequisite conditions for dry-land construction of the new 10,000-tonne-class ship lock. This marks the full entry of the Gezhouba navigation expansion into the main construction phase.
