OpenAI's annualized revenue is $20 billion less than previously reported expectations.

On October 8 local time, it was reported that OpenAI disclosed to investors that its annualized revenue was close to $50 billion as of the end of September, rather than the roughly $70 billion reported by media last month. The report said the discrepancy mainly stems from different accounting methods, rather than a $20 billion shortfall in OpenAI's business. Anthropic counts revenue generated through cloud service partners such as AWS and Google Cloud as revenue, while OpenAI does not handle it this way. As a result, investors adjusted the figures published by OpenAI to make them comparable with Anthropic's data, which also contributed to the emergence of the estimate of about $70 billion.
