The reporter learned from China Southern Power Grid Yunnan Power Grid Company that as of October 8, the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project had transmitted a cumulative total of more than 1 billion kWh of electricity. The China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project was officially put into operation on April 20, and photovoltaic power from a clean energy base in northern Laos was transmitted to Yunnan through this channel that same day. As cooperation continued to deepen, on August 6, Lao hydropower was transmitted through the project to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. This power transmission is expected to last until the end of October, with a total transmission volume of about 600 million kWh, and the related electricity simultaneously participates in electricity market trading in the southern region. It is understood that, relying on the cross-border trading mechanism of China Southern Power Grid's regional electricity market, surplus hydropower from Laos during the flood season can be supplied continuously to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. In 2026, the photovoltaic and hydropower transmitted through the China-Laos 500 kV interconnection project is expected to reach 1.5 billion kWh in market-based trading volume.
