Reportedly, Samsung Electro-Mechanics plans to invest nearly US$5 billion in South Korea and Vietnam by 2028 for semiconductor substrate production, further enhancing Vietnam's position in the production of key components for AI servers and high-performance computing. As an electronic components subsidiary under South Korea's Samsung Group, Samsung Electro-Mechanics announced two FC-BGA substrate investment plans last week. The product is used in AI servers, robots, and smart vehicle chips. One investment is worth 4.27 trillion won for the company's Sejong plant in South Korea, the largest single-product investment the company has made to date; the other is worth 2.51 trillion won for its Vietnamese subsidiary. The company announced in 2022 that it would test FC-BGA substrates in Thai Nguyen Province in northern Vietnam. The expansion of the facility now indicates that the trial production results met expectations and that the company is ready to enter the mass production stage.
