A state-owned oil pipeline system in Ecuador has suspended operations due to a fire at a pumping station.
On October 3 local time, Ecuador's state oil company reported that the country's main state-owned pipeline system, the Sistema de Oleoducto Transecuatoriano (SOTE), suspended operations that day after a fire broke out at a pumping station in Napo Province. Petroecuador said it has requested the National Oil Crimes Investigation Unit and the National Police Intervention and Rescue Group to carry out an investigation. It is reported that the SOTE pipeline system is about 500 kilometers long and is a key pipeline for transporting crude oil extracted in the Amazon region.
