Greek Prime Minister: Does not accept arrangement to "loan" the Parthenon sculptures
On October 3 local time, Greek Prime Minister Mitsotakis stated that the Greek government will not accept an arrangement to "borrow" the Parthenon sculptures from the British Museum, as ownership of these sculptures belongs to Greece. On August 29 of this year, the director of the British Museum had stated that the Parthenon sculptures could be returned to Greece through a "loan" arrangement. However, he also claimed that, due to the relevant provisions of the British Museum Act passed in 1963, permanently returning the Parthenon sculptures to Greece is currently still difficult.
