International gold prices surged then fell back on Nonfarm Payrolls day, ultimately closing down more than 0.9%, and fell 3.4% for the week.

Friday in late New York trading, spot gold fell 0.96% to $4,137.70 an ounce. At 20:30 Beijing time, when the U.S. nonfarm payrolls report was released, it surged from around $4,180 to $4,226.45, marking a daily high, before steadily giving back gains and stabilizing at low levels since 23:00 fluctuating narrowly around $4,140. It fell 3.40% for the week, with a significant drop on September 28, when it fell to $4,111.01 at 22:30, followed by continued low-level consolidation. COMEX gold futures fell 3.58% for the week to $4,166.60 an ounce. Spot silver fell 1.03% to $60.3664 an ounce, down 6.11% for the week. COMEX silver futures fell 6.42% for the week to $60.640 an ounce. COMEX copper futures rose 0.66% to $6.5810 a pound, down 2.75% for the week, continuing an overall decline. Spot platinum fell 1.52%, down 4.56% for the week; USD/oz; spot palladium fell 1.16%, down 7.79% for the week. This week, the Philadelphia Gold and Silver Index, traded during U.S. stock market hours, fell 5.63% to 361.89 points. The NYSE Arca Gold Miners Index, traded around the clock in global markets, fell 5.44% to 2,513.24 points. The raw materials index, traded during U.S. stock market hours, fell 2.87%, while the metals and mining index fell 0.89%. The State Street Metals and Mining ETF closed up 1.39% at $105.74, down 2.39% for the week, its sixth consecutive weekly decline, and down 13.93% on a daily chart since the close of trading on August 27.
