The AI boom is squeezing consumer electronics. Logitech's CEO says the chip shortage will be hard to ease in the short term: "I spent the entire summer begging and borrowing to hunt for chips."
Logitech CEO Hanneke Faber revealed that, amid the global AI boom, the traditional consumer tech supply chain is facing severe challenges. Faber said that in order to secure the supply of key components for the company's mice, keyboards, and gaming peripherals, she spent the entire summer traveling the world. "All summer I've been begging, borrowing, and stealing chips," Faber said, before clarifying: "I don't want to say stealing. It's begging and borrowing!" Faber explained that global production of memory and storage chips is currently highly concentrated among a handful of leading companies, while the explosive demand from the AI industry chain has siphoned off a large amount of production capacity, directly squeezing the room for survival of consumer electronics manufacturers such as Logitech. She stressed that the chip shortage facing the entire industry will continue in the short term.
