U.S. consumer spending grew in August at the fastest pace in more than a year, continuing to power the economy amid persistent inflationary pressure. According to data released by the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis on Wednesday, inflation-adjusted personal spending rose 0.6% month over month in August, the largest monthly increase since March 2025. The Federal Reserve's preferred inflation gaugethe personal consumption expenditures price indexrose 0.3% month over month in August. Excluding food and energy, the core PCE price index rose 0.2%.
