Burnham proposes scrapping the pensions triple lock by 2030 to free up funds for a national care system.

UK Prime Minister Burnham has announced that the Labour government plans to build a national care service system during the next parliamentary term. He said the service will be provided free of charge according to need, and care costs will no longer be deducted from the basic state pension. He introduced that the care services in this system are "people-centred, not profit-driven," giving people peace of mind about their care needs in old age; the policy will protect people's homes and savings while giving care workers the fair treatment they deserve. Burnham promised to abolish the pension triple lock mechanism from 2030, a move that could open up an additional source of funding for the new social care system. He said a new double lock rule will be introduced: the state pension will rise each year by whichever is higher, inflation or 2.5%, and the new plan will no longer include earnings growth in the calculation formula. He called this new care system a landmark policy comparable to the creation of the UK National Health Service nearly a century ago. "We will deliver it, we will get it done."
