Apple must pay $5.7 billion in damages to a litigation-finance-backed company in a patent lawsuit.

A federal jury in San Diego ruled that Apple infringed patents held by Taction Technology and must pay more than $5.7 billion. The patents at issue involve vibration technology used in iPhone and Apple Watch models. The jury found that Apple infringed the claims of two Taction haptic feedback patents, but that the infringement was not willful. Taction sued Apple for infringement in 2021, and the patents at issue describe haptic transducers capable of generating low-frequency vibrations that can be perceived by the human body.
