Japanese refiners have stepped up purchases of Middle Eastern crude as the shutdown of a key pipeline in Saudi Arabia intensified concerns over near-term crude supply. Eneos Holdings and Idemitsu Kosan recently bought Omani crude scheduled for loading as early as October, according to traders familiar with the matter. The purchases came earlier than usual, the traders said. Typically, Persian Gulf crude cargoes bought in September are loaded in November.
