Altman: The world needs to trust that U.S. AI companies will act responsibly; welcomes the establishment of a consistent safety requirements framework.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman posted on X that OpenAI welcomes a federal regulatory framework that establishes uniform safety requirements for frontier AI. However, companies do not need to wait for antitrust exemptions or relevant legislation to be enacted before they start building this trust. Altman said that establishing uniform rules to govern frontier risks, such as introducing independent audit institutions, is a good approach to maximizing benefits. He added that shifting toward safety-focused AI development and evaluation requires new tools. The company looks forward to working with other industry participants to develop standards on model alignment deviations, monitoring, and safety.
