Heavy rainfall has triggered a geological disaster in Sichuan, leading to the early evacuation and relocation of 55,928 people.
According to reports from the Sichuan Provincial Geological Disaster Prevention and Control Command Office, from 8:00 on August 17 to 8:00 on August 18, heavy to torrential rain fell in places such as Neijiang, Chengdu, Zigong, Meishan, Liangshan, Yibin, Leshan, Ziyang, Deyang, Aba, and Mianyang, with local areas experiencing extremely heavy rain. The maximum rainfall recorded was 166.4 mm at the Yuexi Liashi Mountain Station in Weiyuan County, Neijiang. The heavy rainfall triggered a geological disaster in Ganzi, with no casualties reported, and local authorities have implemented preventive measures. At 17:00 yesterday, the Sichuan Provincial Department of Natural Resources and the Sichuan Meteorological Bureau jointly issued a yellow warning for geological disaster meteorological risk for the next 24 hours, affecting 10 cities and 69 counties, including Chengdu, Deyang, Mianyang, Leshan, Meishan, Yibin, Yaan, Aba, Ganzi, and Liangshan. As of 7:00 on August 18, a total of 55,928 people had been relocated for safety in advance across 80 counties in 11 cities in Sichuan within a 24-hour period. Since the onset of the flood season, a total of 1,080,900 person-times have been relocated for safety in Sichuan.
