The South Korean side has denied reports about discussions on making chips its first investment in the United States. The South Korean presidential office stated on Tuesday, The claim that the two countries are discussing semiconductors as the first strategic investment project candidate is not true. The South Korean presidential office did not disclose details of the negotiations regarding the investment commitment between Seoul and Washington. Previously, the Korea JoongAng Daily reported that the first investment project originally planned to be announced later this month is facing uncertainty due to Washington's sudden request for investment in U.S. memory chip facilities. According to the report, this request became the focus of discussions during a closed-door trade meeting held at the presidential office on August 13. South Korea initially listed the energy sector as its key focus area for launching its first major investment in the United States, while attending officials generally believed that investing in U.S. memory chip factories was unrealistic, as Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix have already committed to investing at least $88 billion in building chip and data centers.
