On the 17th, Tokyo Electric Power Company announced that the 22nd round of discharge of contaminated water from the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant has concluded, with nearly 8,000 tons of contaminated water released. According to a press release from Tokyo Electric Power Company, this round of discharge began on July 30 and ended on the afternoon of August 17, local time, totaling 7,888 tons of contaminated water, which contains approximately 1.3 trillion becquerels of radioactive tritium. This is the fourth round of discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant for the 2026 fiscal year. In August 2023, Japan unilaterally forced the start of the discharge of contaminated water from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant, disregarding the strong doubts and opposition from the international community. So far, a total of 22 rounds of discharge of contaminated water have been conducted, with a cumulative discharge volume of about 173,000 tons.
