The 34.5-kilometer long tunnel that traverses the Hengduan Mountains has made significant progress in its construction.
On August 17, after 11 years of hard work by thousands of builders, significant progress has been made in the construction of the Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel, a key component of the China-Myanmar International Railway Corridorspecifically, the section of the railway from Dali to Ruili in Yunnan. The tunnel entrance has successfully connected to the parallel diversion tunnel of Shaft No. 1. So far, the overall progress of the Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel has surpassed 70%. The Gaoligong Mountain Tunnel is the first ultra-long railway tunnel in China that traverses the Hengduan Mountains, with a total length of 34.53 kilometers. The construction area encompasses 17 different strata and 19 fault zones, almost covering all adverse geological conditions and major risks that could affect tunnel construction.
