He mentioned a current false dichotomy: some people believe that regulation will lead to regulatory capture and concentration of power, while others argue that broadly disseminating AI models is the optimal way to mitigate technological risks. Amodei pointed out that institutions like the courts can achieve power decentralization; at the same time, he expressed that Anthropic supports relevant policies: on one hand, restraining the development pace of frontier AI companies, and on the other hand, creating developmental advantages for smaller competitors. He then discussed his previous public statements about AI, denying that his remarks were overly pessimistic. He stated that the articles he writes balance the risks and benefits of technology, but social media often takes snippets to garner attention, portraying his comments in an extremely pessimistic light.
