According to Korean media reports, Apple has recently reached out to Changxin Storage to procure LPDDR5X and other mobile DRAM chips. The global DRAM chip supply landscape is changing, and Chinese chip companies are rising. Changxin is the only force in nearly thirty years to break the long-standing monopoly of Samsung, SK Hynix, and Micron. Recently, due to price increases from the three giants in the memory chip market, it is not surprising that Apple seeks cooperation with Changxin to ensure supply chain security and pricing autonomy. However, Apple's ultimate intention is not just about the chips. Apple hopes that Changxin can become a "catfish" in the storage chip market, stirring up the waters of pricing power. This way, the few giants will have to reconsider whether they still hold a trump card when negotiating price increases with Apple next time.
