Hungarian Prime Minister: Salvage operations have begun to raise the water level and ensure the operation of the nuclear power plant.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced at a press conference held at the Paks nuclear power plant on the 15th local time that the controlled sinking of the barge has begun. Although the water level in the main channel of the Danube River is still declining, the water level at the nuclear power plant's pump station has risen by one centimeter. Orban stated that without this intervention, the water level of the Danube would drop to extremely low levels by the evening of the 16th, forcing one of the two turbines still in operation at the power plant to shut down, which could lead to a complete shutdown thereafter. He pointed out that the sinking barge and the construction of a cofferdam are precisely aimed at preventing this situation.
