Hong Kong has raised its economic growth forecast for 2026 to between 3.5% and 4.5%.
The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government stated on the 14th that due to the better-than-expected actual economic performance in the first half of this year and the positive short-term outlook, it has raised the forecast for the full-year real GDP growth in 2026 from 2.5%3.5% to 3.5%4.5%. The government noted that benefitting from robust external trade and resilient internal demand, Hong Kong's economy continued to expand vigorously in the second quarter. In the second quarter, Hong Kong's real GDP grew by 4.3% year-on-year, following a 5.9% growth in the first quarter. In the first half of the year, Hong Kong's real GDP increased by 5.1% year-on-year, marking the strongest semi-annual performance in nearly five years. In terms of exports, the growth rate of Hong Kong's overall goods exports accelerated in the second quarter, with a real year-on-year increase of 28.9%; service exports increased by 3.4% year-on-year in real terms, with output across all major service categories continuing to grow.
