Our country's battle for clear water will strive to address the "troublesome issues" faced by the public.

The State Council Information Office held a themed press conference today titled Beginning the 14th Five-Year Plan. At the meeting, it was introduced that during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, China will proactively tackle the battle for clean water with multiple measures, striving to resolve the troublesome issues faced by the public. It was reported that in recent years, the water quality of major rivers in China has continued to improve, with the main streams of the Yangtze River and the Yellow River maintaining Grade II water quality for several consecutive years, demonstrating significant results. However, there are still weaknesses in the protection of the water ecological environment: in some areas, the principal streams are good while the tributaries are poor; in some locations, the water quality is good during normal times but poor during flood periods; and in some areas, water pollution issues remain prominent near residents homes and along fields and roads. According to the Action Plan for the Protection and Management of Water Bodies Near the Public forwarded by the General Office of the State Council, future efforts will focus more on the water bodies near the public to address significant water ecological environment issues at their doorsteps. First, the focus of management will be broadened and improved. Second, efforts to control pollution sources will be enhanced. Third, monitoring and regulation will be continuously deepened. Importantly, there will be a proactive response to the concerns of the public. On one hand, a nationwide ecological and environmental complaint and reporting platform will be used to accept reports, with over 14,000 water pollution complaints received and resolved by 2025. On the other hand, problem clues will be widely collected using satellite remote sensing, big data screening, and other means, establishing a closed-loop working mechanism for investigation, transfer, verification, rectification, and cancellation. The Ministry of Ecology and Environment will continue to prioritize environmental protection for the public, deeply advancing the management of water bodies near residents, aiming to achieve basic three noes by 2030, namely no unusual color, no unusual smell, and no unusual substances, allowing the public to feel more of the effectiveness of water environment management.
