Survey: The vast majority of Japanese companies have not yet fully adopted artificial intelligence.

A survey released by Reuters on Thursday showed that over 80% of Japanese companies utilize artificial intelligence only to a limited extent in their operations, or have not adopted it at all, a trend that could hinder the government's efforts to boost productivity. About 60% of respondents indicated that AI is applied only in parts of the company's business or used in other limited ways. Another 18% said they have not yet decided whether to introduce AI into the workplace, and 6% have not even considered adopting AI. The survey revealed that the remaining 16% of companies have deployed AI as an indispensable tool throughout the entire company. "We have started to use AI across the company, but its application is limited to tasks such as document creation," a manager at a wholesale company wrote in the survey. A supervisor from another real estate company stated, "We don't know how to utilize it." A government report this year indicated that Japan lags behind other industrialized nations in AI application: 86.4% of Japanese companies use generative AI for at least one task; China's figure is 98.1%, Germany's is 91.6%, and the United States' is 90.9%.
