Russia has started importing gasoline from distant India, following attacks by Ukraine on Russian refineries that have led to a severe shortage of fuel supplies in Russia. According to shipping data firm Kpler, this marks the first time Russia has imported automotive gasoline from a South Asian country. Kpler reported that the first batch of gasoline arrived on August 5, and more tankers are expected to reach Russia in the future. This fuel is transported via a fleet of tankers associated with Russia and is transferred in waters near Egypt before being shipped to Russia. Sumit Ritolia, chief analyst at Kpler, stated, The emergence of gasoline supplies from India is particularly noteworthy." He noted that these shipments from India, along with the gasoline that Russia continues to import from Belarus and other neighboring markets, highlight the severe imbalance between supply and demand for gasoline in Russia, and reflect how the declining operating rates of refineries are reshaping the traditional trade flows of Russian refined oil products.
