Three major super projects, South Korea aims to launch a "lightning strike."

On the 10th, South Korean President Lee Jae-myung chaired the second inspection meeting of the Super Project Joint Civilian-Military Committee, urging the acceleration of the "three major super projects." He demanded that the South Korean government not only engage in a "speed battle" but also in a "lightning battle," clearly stating the need to temporarily transfer the core functions of the Gwangju military airport within two years to free up space for the semiconductor super projects in the southwestern region. According to the South Korean newspaper "Chosun Ilbo," the South Korean government is promoting the three major super projects, which have a total scale of approximately 470 trillion won, focusing on three directions: expanding the semiconductor supply chain, building AI data centers, and nurturing the physical AI industry. Companies such as Samsung Electronics and SK Group plan to invest about 80 trillion won in Gwangju, South Korea, to construct four semiconductor factories. The South Korean newspaper "Dong-A Ilbo" analyzed that Lee Jae-myung's push for a "lightning battle" aims to avoid repeating the setbacks faced by the Yongin semiconductor project. The SK Hynix Yongin semiconductor project, after being announced in 2019, was delayed for six years due to issues related to environmental assessments, water use, and land compensation before construction could begin. A report from "Seoul News" mentioned that the accelerated pursuit by Chinese semiconductor companies is also forcing South Korea to speed up its industrial layout, making the relocation of military airports and the construction of core infrastructure such as electricity and water supply urgent.
