Latvia launches nationwide coordinated action to curb illegal immigration.

On the 11th, the Latvian government launched a nationwide coordinated operation code-named "Wolf Action" to curb illegal immigration activities along the border with Belarus. According to a press release from the Prime Ministers Office, this operation, initiated by Prime Minister Krijnis Kari, is coordinated by the Crisis Management Center of the Prime Ministers Office, involving joint efforts from the Border Guard of the Ministry of the Interior, the State Police, and the National Armed Forces, and is planned to continue until the end of August. Since 2021, Latvia has been continuously tightening border control policies along its border with Belarus due to ongoing attempts at illegal crossings. Currently, only motor vehicles are allowed to pass through the Pternieki border checkpoint. On July 1, the Latvian government decided to extend the heightened security alert in the border area with Belarus until the end of this year. According to local media, Latvian border officers have intercepted nearly 9,500 illegal crossing attempts this year.
