Continuous high temperatures have affected crops in the Hexi Corridor, and drought conditions may persist.

Recent high temperature and sunny weather in the Hexi Corridor of Gansu Province have had an adverse impact on crop irrigation. Zhangye City has over 1.6 million acres of corn planted, of which about 1.1 million acres are seed corn. A reporter from the Central Station visited a seed corn planting base in Ganzhou District and observed that due to high temperatures, low rainfall, and water scarcity, the growth of crops is poor. In some fields, the husks of corn that are in the late filling stage are dry, and the number of grains is less than in previous years. According to the Gansu Provincial Meteorological Bureau on August 11, since mid-July, most areas in Gansu have experienced higher than normal temperatures and overall greater rainfall, but the distribution is uneven. It is expected that in the next 30 days, there will be a risk of moderate drought in the Hexi mountainous dryland and most parts of Baiyin City. To ensure crop growth, the agricultural department of Zhangye City has taken measures to respond to the drought. The city has selected over 60 professional technical personnel to form six drought resistance technology teams, which, organized by county and district, go into the fields to provide technical guidance services for drought management and field moisture retention, alleviating the impact of drought and reducing agricultural losses.
