Trading of silver on the Chicago Mercantile Exchange will launch 24-hour trading starting September 11.
The Chicago Mercantile Exchange announced today that its 100-ounce silver futures contracts will expand to all-day trading starting September 11, 2026, pending regulatory approval. Jin Hennig, Managing Director and Global Head of Metals for CME Group, stated, Silver connects the worlds of precious metals and industrial metals, serving as a diversification tool for investors while responding to macroeconomic news and physical demand. Our retail clients have shown strong demand for the ability to trade 1-ounce gold futures at any time, so we are now extending the same all-day trading capability to silver, helping participants manage risk and seize opportunities. Since the launch of all-day trading for 1-ounce gold futures on July 24, the newly added weekend trading hours have accumulated over 53,000 contracts traded, with a notional value of approximately $219 million, becoming the most liquid market for weekend trading in gold futures.
