On the 11th, the Reserve Bank of Australia announced that it would keep the benchmark interest rate unchanged at 4.35%, in line with market expectations. This marks again a decision by the Australian central bank to maintain the interest rate, while also warning that inflation risks remain. The Reserve Bank of Australia stated on the same day that the monetary policy committee made this decision unanimously. The statement pointed out that although the impact of the Middle East conflict on inflation has been lower than expected, the overall inflation rate in Australia remains too high, and there is uncertainty in both economic activity and inflation prospects. According to data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the country's consumer price index year-on-year growth rate fell from 4.0% in May this year to 3.8% in June, still above the target range of 2% to 3% set by the Reserve Bank of Australia. The central bank has held five monetary policy meetings this year, raising the benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points in February, March, and May, and keeping the rate unchanged in June. The next meeting of the RBA monetary policy committee will be held in September.
