On the 10th, U.S. President Trump stated that the United States has "100% control" over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump described the Strait of Hormuz as a "clear waterway," adding that "the only force controlling the Strait of Hormuz right now is the U.S. Navy." He also mentioned that the U.S. military is enforcing a maritime blockade against Iran, allowing only those vessels that the U.S. wants to pass through. However, he acknowledged that the situation in the Strait of Hormuz is "a bit complicated," and that Iran "will deploy mines"; nonetheless, he stated that the U.S. military has conducted mine-clearing operations throughout the strait. On the 10th, CNN cited data from maritime tracking agency Kpler, reporting that traffic in the Strait of Hormuz has remained "sluggish" over the past week and has "further weakened over the weekend." The number of vessels passing through the strait was 15 on the 7th, dropping to 11 on the 8th, and further down to 6 on the 9th. Previously, Iranian officials indicated that if the U.S. does not change its behavior, the Strait of Hormuz would remain closed, and that reopening it would depend on the U.S. meeting all of Iran's conditions.
