Samsung SDI will fully take over the joint venture with General Motors in the U.S. and has agreed to jointly develop the next generation of electric vehicle batteries.

On August 11, Samsung SDI announced an agreement with General Motors to jointly develop the next generation of electric vehicle batteries. The prismatic battery products developed under this agreement are expected to be applied to General Motors' next-generation electric vehicle models. Samsung SDI also agreed to acquire General Motors' entire stake in the joint venture Synergy Cells located in Indiana, USA, and take over the company. Synergy Cells has a designed annual production capacity of 27 GWh, with an investment plan of $3.5 billion, and the factory is currently under construction.
