American Airlines flight returns after bird strike

On the morning of August 10 local time, an American Airlines flight that was scheduled to fly from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, to Charlotte, North Carolina, encountered a bird strike and engine issues shortly after takeoff, forcing it to return to Myrtle Beach International Airport. American Airlines stated that the plane landed safely, with no injuries among the 172 passengers on board. Air traffic control recordings revealed that the pilot reported "engine problems" and declared an "emergency." A significant amount of bird debris and feathers were found on the runway. Additionally, nearby pilots reported seeing the aircraft hit a flock of birds and smoke coming from the left engine. However, after inspection upon landing, no fire or leaks were reportedly found. The Federal Aviation Administration will investigate the incident.
