Jensen Huang disrupted NVIDIA.

According to reports, Nvidia has equipped its next-generation flagship GPU, Rubin Ultra, with a more memory-efficient solution, cutting the HBM specifications nearly in half. SK Hynix, which relies heavily on HBM, is the hardest hit, with its stock price plummeting 19% in a single day. Sources indicate that the HBM configuration for Rubin Ultra has been reduced from the originally planned 12-layer stack of about 384GB to 8 layers with 192GB, a decrease of nearly 50%. The number of GPU chips has also been reduced from four to two, with power consumption lowered accordingly. Nvidia is also evaluating combinations of HBM4e 8 layers and HBM4 12 layers, with the final specifications set to be confirmed after verification in the second half of 2026. Why is Hynix so severely impacted? HBM is the most profitable category among storage chips, and SK Hynix holds about 70% market share, making it the biggest beneficiary of this super cycle. Analysts estimate that Rubin Ultra will account for about 20% of global HBM demand in 2027, and cutting the memory in half translates to a reduction of about 10% in total global HBM sales, directly affecting Hynixs long-term sales.
