Waiting days in line to access CPU resources? AWS is cracking down on computing power waste and plans to shut down virtual servers in bulk.

According to reports, AWS, a subsidiary of Amazon, is thoroughly investigating the issue of waste concerning its internal computing resources. In May of this year, it issued a warning to its internal engineering teams, requiring strict control over computing power consumption to ensure that business operations can continue to meet customer demand for computing resources. As a result, engineers are in the process of shutting down EC2 virtual servers that were previously used for software development in large batches. Notably, this power-saving initiative is not only targeting AI-specific chips but also traditional CPU servers that have long supported network operations. An AWS employee revealed that in the past, requests for CPU server resources would be approved within hours, but now it often takes several days to receive approval. This kind of resource queuing is rare and can directly slow down the progress of projects. In response, AWS stated that, although market demand for computing power is enormous, the company can still meet the computing needs of the vast majority of internal and external clients.
