China's first drug for preventing acute altitude sickness has been approved for market launch.

According to Tibet Daily, recently, after strict review and approval by the National Medical Products Administration, acetazolamide sustained-release capsules, led by Professor Gesang Luobu, the Vice President of the Tibet Autonomous Region People's Hospital and Director of the Tibet Plateau Medical Research Institute, have been officially approved for market sale. This makes it the first drug approved in the country for the prevention of acute altitude sickness. The approval of this drug marks the end of Chinas history without a specific medication for preventing acute altitude sickness, further enriching the means of prevention and treatment in plateau medicine. It provides a solid health guarantee for the local population, the large influx of travelers to Tibet, and significant construction projects in high-altitude areas, while also significantly enhancing Tibets research influence in the international field of plateau medicine.
