The U.S. will impose tariffs on polysilicon derivatives and introduce a minimum import price mechanism.

On December 6, the White House announced that President Trump signed a proclamation that increases the tariff on imported polysilicon derivatives by 15% and establishes a minimum import price mechanism for imported polysilicon and its derivatives. According to the announcement, these measures will be implemented starting December 4, 2026, Eastern Time, in order to revitalize the U.S. polysilicon industry, based on Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962. The introduction of the minimum import price mechanism is intended to prevent any products priced below this level from entering the U.S. market. Under the announcement, the minimum import price for polysilicon is set at $21 per kilogram, while for polysilicon ingots and wafers, it is $100 per kilogram. The minimum import prices for imported solar cells and solar cell modules are set at $0.22 per watt and $0.38 per watt, respectively. The announcement states that the U.S. Department of Commerce is authorized to establish an incentive program to encourage the production of products like polysilicon to "return to the U.S."
