Recently, the price of indium phosphide has risen significantly. Data from Shanghai Metals Market shows that the average price of 4-inch indium phosphide substrates reached 6,250 yuan per piece on August 6, an increase of about 45% compared to the beginning of the year. The rise in indium phosphide prices is further compounded by the simultaneous surge in upstream raw material indium; Wind data indicates that as of August 6, the price of refined indium was 5,430 yuan per kilogram, more than 80% higher than the 2,980 yuan per kilogram at the beginning of the year. Driven by the wave of AI, the demand for indium phosphide substrates for optical modules has expanded rapidly, pushing up the price of indium phosphide. Indium phosphide is primarily used in AIDC high-speed optical module devices, and in recent years, the data rates of optical modules have evolved from 800G to 1.6T and 3.2T, promoting continuous improvements in indium phosphide substrates and further widening the supply-demand gap.
