Trump announced the imposition of tariffs on polysilicon and its derivatives.

On August 6 local time, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order, based on Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, to implement minimum import prices and additional tariffs on imported polysilicon and its derived products, in support of the U.S. domestic polysilicon, semiconductor, and solar supply chains. The announcement specifies minimum import prices as follows: $21 per kilogram for polysilicon; $100 per kilogram for polysilicon ingots and wafers; $0.22 per watt for solar cells; and $0.38 per watt for solar modules. Additionally, the U.S. will impose a 15% ad valorem tariff on polysilicon ingots and related derived products listed in the announcement's attachment. These measures will take effect on December 4, 2026, at 12:01 AM Eastern Time. The announcement also authorizes the Department of Commerce to establish a "Bring Back to America" incentive program. Companies that commit to building, renovating, or expanding polysilicon, silicon ingot, wafer, or solar cell manufacturing facilities in the U.S., and commence construction by January 20, 2029, may apply for exemptions from the Section 232 tariffs on certain imported equipment and related products.
