According to a report by The Information, Nvidia (NVDA.O) is considering a significant measure to address the shortage of high-end, high-bandwidth memory chips. Nvidia is contemplating using a lower memory configuration than originally planned on the next-generation graphics processor, Rubin Ultra. Sources indicate that Nvidia has tested at least three versions of the Rubin Ultra graphics card in recent weeks, with some versions having a memory size below the initially announced specifications. Part of this adjustment is due to its potential inability to secure enough high-end memory to meet the supply demands of the original design. Reducing memory will impact chip performance; however, Nvidia can compensate in other ways. However, other artificial intelligence companies that utilize this memory-reduced chip to run large AI models will need to call on more chips than originally planned.
