Some American law firms are considering selling shares to private equity.
According to the Financial Times citing sources familiar with the matter, U.S. law firms Paul Weiss, Quinn Emanuel, and Proskauer have explored the possibility of selling business stakes to private equity groups. Sources disclosed that Quinn Emanuel has communicated with Guggenheim Securities regarding potential private investment proposals, but the firm has not yet made any decisions or initiated a sale process. Paul Weiss's management met with New Mountain Capital over the past few months. The firm stated that it had heard some investment proposals at the request of its business partner months ago, but added, "We are not currently advancing such matters." Proskauer has met with at least one private equity firm to discuss management service organizational structure issues, while White & Case is also examining related structures. Both firms declined to comment to the media.
