Strong earnings have boosted investors' confidence in the prospects of artificial intelligence, driving the Nasdaq 100 index to rise by 9.3% in just four days, marking the most robust rebound since April 2025, with a market value surge of $3.5 trillion. The rebound in the technology sector is broad-ranging, with gains seen across semiconductor companies, software firms, and major data center operators that have made substantial capital expenditures. The impressive performance in the second quarter has convinced investors that the massive investments in artificial intelligence will not only be sustained but are already beginning to yield returns for some major companies. The days of shorting capital expenditure giants while going long on capital expenditure minnows are long gone, and I think thats a good thing, said David Rainville, chief manager of Sycomore Sustainable Tech Fund. It's no longer a simple binary trade. However, the latest earnings season has also revealed a clear divergence among tech giants: investors prefer companies that demonstrate tangible AI revenues while holding a cautious stance towards those with less obvious earnings.
