Croatia Issues Red Heat Warning for Entire Country

Most regions of Croatia have recently been hit by a new wave of heat, with daytime temperatures surpassing 39 degrees Celsius in some areas. The Croatian National Hydrometeorological Institute has issued a red alert for extreme heat across the country on the 5th and 6th. According to local media reports, the prolonged dry and hot weather has caused water levels in some rivers to continue to drop, with the Drava River, a tributary of the Danube near the eastern city of Osijek, reaching its lowest level in nearly 200 years. Water levels in certain stretches of the Danube running through Croatia are also at extremely low levels, affecting shipping and other activities. Local hydrological experts predict that several smaller rivers in Croatia may completely dry up in the coming days. According to Croatian national television, the Krko Nuclear Power Plant, jointly operated by Croatia and Slovenia, relies on water from the Sava River for cooling; due to rising water temperatures, the operators are closely monitoring the situation and will decide whether to reduce the plant's output based on conditions.
