Guatemala's Fuego Volcano erupts violently, prompting a red alert in surrounding provinces.

Guatemala City news: The National Disaster Reduction Coordination Commission of Guatemala announced on the 4th that due to the ongoing strong eruptions of the Fuego Volcano, the provinces of Sacatepquez, Chimaltenango, and Escuintla surrounding the volcano have entered a provincial red alert status, while the rest of the country remains under an orange alert. The agency announced on social media the night of the 3rd that due to the escalating eruptions of the Fuego Volcano, an orange alert was issued nationwide. The Guatemala National Institute of Seismology, Volcanoes, Meteorology, and Hydrology released a statement saying that the Fuego Volcano continues to emit large amounts of gas, volcanic ash, and lava, with pyroclastic flows continuing to descend along the Ceniza and Seco canyons. Due to wind direction, volcanic ash may continue to spread west and northwest, affecting areas as far as 120 kilometers away. The Fuego Volcano is located southwest of Guatemala City at an elevation of 3,763 meters and is one of the most active volcanoes in Central America. In June 2018, an eruption of the Fuego Volcano resulted in over 200 deaths.
