FIFA denies that Infantino sought help from Trump.
FIFA today dismissed a report by the New York Post which claimed that "FIFA President Gianni Infantino is seeking support from the Trump administration after the plan to sell World Cup shares fell through." FIFA stated that this report is pure "nonsense." On August 3, the New York Post reported that since the proposal to introduce private equity into the World Cup was abandoned last Friday, Infantino had "attempted to call Trump multiple times but failed to connect," and felt "isolated" amid rising criticism. In response, FIFA issued a statement to the media today, stating: "The FIFA President has not called the U.S. President or any members of his administration recently; the related reports are completely fabricated."
