Denmark initiates extended conscription system and will deploy troops to Greenland.

Approximately 1,600 new Danish recruits began serving under the country's newly extended military service system on August 3, entering an 11-month service period. Later this month, Denmark will deploy conscripted soldiers to its autonomous territory of Greenland for the first time. In 2024, Denmark announced that it would expand the scope of military service to include women and extend the service period from 4 months to 11 months. The plan is to increase the number of conscripts from 5,000 to 7,500 annually by 2033. Furthermore, later this month, Denmark will also deploy conscripted soldiers to its autonomous territory of Greenland for the first time. A contingent of more than 100 soldiers will carry out a month-long mission in the region.
